Music Library: N.E.R.D., N.W.A., Naast, Naná Vasconcelos, Nancy Sinatra, Napalm Death, Napoleon XIV
Hey, remember when I used to update this blog with content? Ah, the good old days. In an attempt to bring back the swinging double-aughts, I'm going to attempt to start this feature again, which is especially important to me because I'm only a little over halfway done and I can't check it off my to-do list until I'm done. Which should be in 2020 or so. Onward!
N.E.R.D. - In Search Of... (2002). I gotta go with Christgau on this one. It's shallow but fun. Hip-hop with real drums and remarkably goofy lyrics.
N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton (1989) and The N.W.A. Legacy, Vol. 1: 1988 - 1998 (1999). A historical document capturing pratfaller Ice Cube and cola spokesman Dr. Dre in the early, "angrier" part of their career. I kid. Both of these are awesome. The latter is a compilation of the young, attitude-laden African-Americans as they moved on to the next stages of their careers.
Naast - L'Antichambre (2007). C'est nouvelle vague du rock français. O.K.
Naná Vasconcelos - Africadeus (1973). Psychedelic folk-rock from Brasil. It may not blow your mind, but it may occupy it for an hour or so.
Nancy Sinatra - Boots (1966). Oh, the single is pure delight. Lee Hazlewood's production is pretty good throughout, too, but the remaining material is only so-so.
Napalm Death - From Enslavement To Oblivion (1988) and Mass Appeal Madness EP (1991). These young men are so angry!
Napoleon XIV - "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Ha." Not a bad way to follow up Napalm Death, all things considered.
